In New York, Christopher Woodfill has been spearheading a complete reframing of access for all Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing New Yorkers away from Disability Accommodation towards Language Access. During this keynote lecture, he will discuss how this reframing impacted the daily lives of Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing New Yorkers. New York State is the first state to implement this framing shift in the United States of America. The presenter will discuss the significance of this reframing for the DeafBlind communities worldwide.
Chris Woodfill has served as Executive Director of the New York State Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing Office since January 2024, following his appointment by Governor Kathy Hochul. With over 25 years of professional experience, he previously held leadership roles at Helen Keller National Center and worked for 13 years as a teacher at the Wisconsin School for the Deaf.
